Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has directed authorities to provide weekly progress reports on development initiatives under the Punjab Development Programme, emphasising improved monitoring and timely execution.

Chairing a high-level meeting, the chief minister instructed the Local Government and Community Development Department to regularly submit updates on ongoing projects across cities. She also ordered weekly progress reviews for the flagship model village initiative to ensure transparency and efficiency.

Officials briefed the meeting that development work is currently underway in 51 cities under the programme. Several infrastructure improvements are planned, including the provision of desilting machines, jetting machines, section machines, and dewatering sets aimed at strengthening sanitation and drainage systems. Authorities were also directed to ensure cleanliness of waste containers and proper waste management across urban areas.

In a significant step, the provincial government has decided to establish Punjab’s first high-density polyethylene pipeline lining plant, with work scheduled to begin on April 20. A similar facility is also planned for South Punjab to enhance water and sanitation infrastructure in the region.

During the meeting, a project gallery was used to review visual updates from various districts, while a live dashboard provided insights into financial and physical progress. This digital monitoring system is expected to improve oversight and accountability.

Maryam Nawaz Sharif stated that her administration has delivered more projects in two years than were completed over the previous five-year period. She further directed that once water and sanitation agency projects are completed, greater focus should be placed on urban beautification to improve living standards.

The directives underline the government’s push to accelerate development while ensuring consistent monitoring of progress across Punjab.
